Please, need to know how long it takes to load the following web pages (without ad blockers, although performance with ad blockers could be interesting):

www.pressf1.co.nz
trademe.co.nz
nzoom.com

I have tested with Vodafone and Telecom cellular links, plus my daggy ADSL, would like to see comparison with regular dial up (for a column, so really work related, too).

Oh bugger, forgot to mention from the time you hit enter to when it stops loading (when the bar at the bottom is done).

Would be kind of interesting to hear if they loaded faster with ad blockers running.

Without ad blockers - ADSL JetStream Starter ISP: Quicksilver
IE 5.5 SP (3:08 - 3: 11 pm)

www.pressf1.co.nz- 11 sec

trademe.co.nz - 9 sec

nzoom.com - 10 sec

Look which site is the slow one :D

Hope this helps

oops I meant to add

OS: Win ME

On a LAN computer.

PF1 8s
NZoom.com 4s
Trademe 3s

From dedicated link from work (admittedly work blocks all ads :))

Unfortunately I have no idea of the speed of the connection here at work. I'll post my dial-up times when I get home.

I should probably add that I display 100 posts on PressF1 - it'll load faster if I only viewed 15 :)

robo- are you testing with cache on or off as this will make a huge difference.

oops
I also should add that I display Topics per page: 15
Messages per topic listing: 30 on PressF1

I tested on machines that didn't have anything in cache.

I also did 100 topics on F1 on one and 15 on the other (OOPS, DOH!).

Connected at home (my connection status says 48.0k through Clear.Net dialup).

66s for PressF1 with no ads (I can't be bothered turning off the ad-blocker AND changing the HOSTS file (which appears to block more ads than the ad-blocker does). However if I don't clear my cache first it loads in 22s (with up to date content).

54s for NZoom.Com (tooks AGES to get all the large images, the rest of the site was there quite quickly)

24s for Trademe.

paradise dial up (50667bps) -> smoothwall (proxy off, load average 0.08, 0.10, 0.07) -> me (mozilla 1.4, cache off, mandrake 9.1).

trade me: 8 secs.
nzoom: 28secs.
pressfs (logged out, default settings): 15 secs.

With caching on I got 4, 6, & 8 seconds respectively.

PressF1 took a couple of goes. It kept getting stuck at "Waiting for pressf1.pcworld.co.nz...".

Paradise adsl. All caches cleared:

www.pressf1.co.nz
logged out
13 secs

trademe.co.nz
4 secs

nzoom.com
10 secs

on paradise 56k, two tries at each:

PressF1 = 10sec, 15sec.
Trademe = 4sec, 4.5sec.
Nzoom = 26sec, 16sec

I was surprised at the result for Nzoom - I'm used to PF1 taking ages to load though. Trademe is always zippy, love it.

slingshot 56K, WinXP Pro, Mozilla Firebird 0.6.1, cache cleared, connected at 52Kbps:

PressF1 (logged out - 15 topics showing) = 11.5sec
PressF1 (logged in - 100 topics showing) = 20sec
TradeMe = 10sec
Nzoom = 31sec

cached:
PressF1 (100 topics showing) = 11sec
TradeMe = 4sec
Nzoom = 7sec

PressF1 always takes a long time to start loading, but once it starts it speeds along nicely.
With Nzoom and PressF1 it's the skyscraper ads that seem to hold the page up from finishing sooner (esp. PF1 as it waits to connect to the doubleclick server.)

I just tried pressf1 again, after being logged off and browsing elsewhere.

It took 32 seconds! Another 25 seconds to open this thread.

nzoom and trademe are still as fast as before. Are you sitting on the bottleneck Robo??!!

I better add those above time where times with a stop watch, & I was logon on to Press F1 & the cache was not cleared, part from that, I had not been to NZoom that day, & first time to trademe, for a few months
