I have a 5.1 home theatre system,
I have a 5.1 SBLive! 5.1 sound card.

I want to connect the 2 and enjoy 5.1 sound.

The sound card supports an analogue/digital out (the orange connector) and I see that on the back of the amp there is a "Digital In Coax"…

Referring back to tweak'e comment (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=9846&message=13616&q=home+theater) it sounds like a simple matter of plugging in a cable…
which cable is this and where can I get it?

I've been to Dick Smith and they say they don’t have anything available that will meet my needs.
The best they can offer is a minijack that splits off to 2 RCA cables, a bit unfortunate when I will only be getting stereo sounds out of a 5.1 system.

Thanks for your thoughts

I suprised that Dick Smith would not have a coax digital cable (I think you can get away with a "normal" analogue RCA cable). I presume the SB only has RCA out and the receiver has RCA in (digital Coax) so it should plug straight in.

Thanks for your reply,

Its my basic understanding that all I need to do is get a digital signal from my PC to my amp. So a coax digital cable should do this for me then...

Great

Thanks for your help ;)

Just as a safe guard keep the volume low before switching to the digital input. Also the receiver should detect if it is indeed a digital signal from the SB and switch to the appropriate mode.

Thanks,
I'll run along shopping tomorrow and get...hey its late night shopping tonight, maybe I'll get it now.

Either way I'll be sure to let you know if it works out for me.

Cheers.

PS I shouldn’t have a problem finding a digital coax cable that will fit in the sound card minijack will I ?? :S

Thanks for those links.

Went asking about that digital coaxial cable today, and it appears that they have the cable I need, but both ends being RCA.
The sad truth being that it looks like an RCA cable is not going to fit into my soundcards digital out port. (Or perhaps with enough force / Ingenuity will it?)

Is there some kind of adapter/converter that will go from digital coaxial male, into something that will fit into my soundcard?

Thanks.

Thank you so much! :D

uhh so where does I get one from??

I'll ask my trusted local online computer retailers about it, but if they don’t have where do you think I could pick one up from? To courier is over is also an option

Thanks a lot for your help.
Greatly appreciated
