Hi there, periodically i find on boot up my D drive ( ie CD drive) is simply not there. Tonite i went to burn a backup CD and of course no go :(

This has happened before, but ususally reppears on rebooting, not tonite.

I am a simpleton, so need simply explained help, please.

What O.S do you have & does it always see the CD-ROM/RW Drive in the BIOS on startup?

And what make of drive is it? My disappearing D: drive (which I just replaced in the end) is an Atapi. OS Win XP Pro - but I don't think that would make any difference. Your CD drawer doesn't open and shut by itself, does it?

Hi Mucous,
The replies you get re disappearing D drive are on the right track and in my experience - was pure and simply a broken wire in the 40 odd in the cable to the drive- the loose connection you say is not so- but this broken wire certainly was - and one could not see it - new cost about $10
