One year ago today Candy went live, much to the relief of everyone suffering the vagaries of the old forum and its all-too-regular crashes.

Happy Birthday Press F1.

Many thanks to those who have made it possible and also to all the people who have given me help and laughs over the past year and beyond. :-)

On this occasion that is this current version of the forums turning one years old from when it went live. I thought I would post up some memorable events that have happened over the history of PressF1 (http://www.pressf1.co.nz) so far, well since I've been here anyway.
For those of you that haven't been here for very long, these forums were very different before the current version came around, if someone had an image of it I would be very grateful.

Please remember not to reply to these threads as it will just get annoying

Geek of the Week (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=13125)
This was when robo was looking at starting a weekly Geek of the Week prize. This would have to be one of the best threads that I can remember happening it got to over 200 posts from what I can remember. It's a pity that lots of the posts seem to be missing from what was originally there. I wonder what did happen to those prizes, I want my pocket protectors?

Hey Robo!! Where is the new PressF1??? (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=20650)
Someone eagerly waiting for the new (aka the current) version of the forums to arrive.

PressF1 Chatroom? (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=14783)
This is rather interesting once you go and have a look at what is in FAQ: PressF1 Chatroom (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=26971). We now practically have what was requested.

Daddy Mike (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=21231)
That long time contributor Mike has his first child, which going by my sources is the same day that the new PressF1 was launched.

Poppa John and Maryann get married (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=27660)
PressF1's first on-line wedding.

--
Nortons Anti-Virus (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=14954)
Some of you may remember this thread and what havoc it ended up causing.

Some thoughts on current controversies (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=15017)
This being one of the things the above thread created.

I must say that it was a sad day when e_ left and I apoligise to you members for what part I may have played in that.

Ideas for an F1 t-shirt ??? (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=19152)
robo's rantastic idea of a PressF1 T-shirt.
What ever did happen to that robo? :p

AAArrrrrrggggghhhhh Kill That Damn IPAQ!!!! (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=18626)
This was a brilliant ad campaign by Compaq which involved a banner ad as well as a Flash generated iPAQ that would follow your mouse pointer around the page. Another view (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=18727) on the advert. Doesn't matter what they say, I thought it was good.

tweak'e, your T-shirt is waiting (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=11332)
tweak'e winning ANOTHER one of his t-shirts.

saterday news (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=22892)
One of tweak'e's infamous news posts complete with trademark spelling mistake.

test (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=23129)
Another one of these test threads from Mike.

Suggested improvements to Press F1 (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=14858)
Back in the old forums when there were soem discussions about what to have in the new forums.

Last post of 2001 (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=14187)
First post of 2002 (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=14188)
The last post of 2001. SY had a race with me to get the first post for 2002, he got it in the end. He won a prize for that as well, I got one for a good effort. Some others got them for the "first genuine question/answer".

Overclocking CPU (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=11520)
SY and his overclocking questions. He then went on to overclock it to 166 I think it was.

I'm sure that there are plenty of other ones out there. Feel free to post them here people.

Remember not to reply to the old threads. :)

Good stuff Susan! I was hoping nobody else would remember so that I could start the happy birthday thread ;) It's easy for me to remember, because today is also Michal's 1st birthday - she's the same age as the new Press F1 :D But you beat me to it (being up in the middle of the night helped for you though - I was fast asleep!)

Ah, she's awake... I'd better go and say happy birthday to her too :)

Mike.

Yay happy birthday Press F1

(If there was a party I'd be hovering behind the pot plants picking up tips.)

LOL......................thanks everybody and good luck to you all.

Yes, well, I suspected you might be up earlier than me to do it, so I stayed up late especially to beat you! :p :D

Wish Michal and her mum Congratulations and Happy Birthday -- it is hard to believe it is a whole year ago. Seems like yesterday that those Old Wive's Tales were being knocked for a six left, right and centre! :D

JM: Thanks for doing all those links, you did a magnificent job of ferreting them out. ;-) :-)

Now, all I have to do is figure out how to get them to load and display......

PressF1 oldest thread (I think) can be found here:

Sep 1, 1998 11:09 AM (http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=1).

... although not suprisingly, Mike rediscovered it a while ago and "refreshed" it :D

Man.. 1 year.. anybody have any screenshots of the old forum??

And what a year it has been

Happy Birthday to PressF1..

Nice ASCII art Jen..

And JM.. I'll look up those threads when PF1's loading faster ;-)

-=JM=-

Well the reason for the threads loading slower is probably due to those threads being old threads at a guess. I'm picking it has to dig through further to get them out.

Happy Birthday Press F1.

Ditto..... and I must agree its hard to believe its only been a year since the new forums been up :O

But its been a good year ;-) with lots of new and old regulars contributing lots of knowledge which is great :-)

And to Mike - Pass on a big "Happy Birthday" to Michal on her first birthday :-)

I found a pic of the old forum style, just before the change to the new one, however couldn't find one of the main page unfortunately :-(

But heres a thread in the old format we knew & loved :D ]:)

Here (http://www.jzep.orcon.net.nz/oldf1image.JPG)

Well done JM - its an interesting trip down memory lane reading some of those older threads ;-)

Well I just went on a little dig and found some other interesting pages.

We have This (http://web.archive.org/web/20010409090847/http://pcworld.co.nz/pcworld/pcwpressf1.nsf) which is what the forums used to look like. You may see a few names you recognise on that page.

Here (http://web.archive.org/web/20000302221713/http://www.pcworld.co.nz/pcworld/pcwpressf1.nsf) we have a page that is before I came to PressF1 as far as I can remember.
