Has Telecom taken the plunge and upped JetStart plan?

Looks like it to me as I am getting 32 - 36KBytes/Sec both ways tonight which would indicate it is.

Hi Big John

Hmmm, I am not sure about that, at the moment, I still only 15-17kbps just now...

but if telecom really up the speed to 256kb, i think they would notify every user by email i guess...

so perhaps we just have to wait until it is official...

I hope it is true. 128K is just too slow for some things.

Depends on what program you are using to download with.

Internet Explorer displays an incorrect download speed, which leads you on to believe you are getting a faster speed than you actually are.

Well, lets test out this theory!

Wheres a speed test page or something?

Downloading latest AV update file, get 15.7 KB/s average.
That perfectly standard, so Xtra have not changed their settings for me anyway.

Jetstreamgames/speed (http://www.jetstreamgames.co.nz/speed/) = "Your line speed is approximately 130.6 Kbps or 16 K bytes/sec"
:(

Jetstart + Ihug is giving me an average of 13 K bytes/sec download & upload speed (measured using a FTP program). Nothing flash there :(

Can't complain tho - still miles better than on dial up :D

whatever bootylicios.

You just said that you can download at 25Megabytes a sec. What type of adsl modem are you using for this? The current adsl standard is set at a maxiumum of 8MegaBits per sec which is about 1megabyte a sec.

me thinks you have got the page in cache, hold ctrl and press refresh :-)

some interesting responses...

this is a quirk of the ADSL service - Every so often it goes "uncapped" and users can enjoy full speed, the limitation being their line. When I was living with my parents we had a full 7.6meg connection for 3 days after hooking up with Ihug (my old man is a telecommunications engineer - we spent a day overhauling the phone cabling and got the lines' capability from 4meg up to 7.6... definately not bad for a semi-rural area)

Hell even here at my flat we were uncapped for a couple of days after lining up with inspire. 5.5Meg capability here.

Two nights ago I was downloading nationally at 360k off another lucky inspire customer who was uncapped...

It happens, enjoy it while it lasts. You normally dont get charged for it, but remember - it's not going to stay that way forever, so go nuts while its there!

I am on JetStream Starter as well, and was getting some faster than normal speeds last evening.

My line test this am shows:
"Your line speed is approximately 6375 Kbps or 781.3 K bytes/sec"

from day one I had adsl.

exceptions:

my maxium speed is about 3.5 MBs. I only get that speed when I switch to the jetstream gaming domain. the happy moment came when I downloaded Redhat 8.0 iso images from js ftp, about 25 minutes per disc.
But I can't reproduce the luck with RH9.0.

Nope, its gone back down to 15KB/sec today. It was good while it lasted but I guess they have not dont it yet.

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

Download time: 31.219 seconds
Size of file: 1000 Kilobytes
Estimated line speed: 261.4 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 32 (kilobytes/second)

Paradise cable :D

Is there any Redhat disks currently on the Jetstream Games server?
