The great people over at Mozilla (http://mozilla.org) have released Mozilla Firebird (formerly Phoenix) over here (http://mozilla.org/projects/firebird) it is a huge improvement over the 0.5 release in my opinion. They recommend that you wipe out your old profile prior to installing this release. As you should do anyway.

Also remember to check out http://www.texturizer.net/firebird for handy tips on Mozilla Firebird and also lots of themes and extensions for it.

Kudos to the Mozilla Firebird team for this great release. I just wish they would fix the way tabs open to be more like Galeon (Tabs open next to the current one rather than at the end of the tab bar).

I've also been trying out their mail client, Mozilla Thunderbird and I'm pleasently suprised. It still has bugs here and there and it still has components that need removing, but its going to be just as good as Mozilla Firebird is now, someday :).

Seems a little bit more 'smoothed over' for the GUI side of it.. it hasnt crashed yet (Always a good thing), and there's a lil more control over the popup and ad-blocker :-)

Id say its worth the download.. not bad for 6 1/2 megs on Win32.. Downloading the Tarball files now :-)

Haven't used it myself but I think that the Tab Browser extension might allow you to open new tabs in the tab just after the one you're in.
