I've got a few MPGs on my hand and I would like to extract the sound from the MPGs so I could use the sound files for other uses.

Is there any tools out there that would do it for me.

plug your speaker wire into your mic port
play the movie and record with another program

Don't use the Mic port. Use the Line In port, and set that to record. I have posted instructions here:

I have found a program in the past which takes audio out of mpg files. I think it was called MediaRaider. Have a look on Download.com or Google, and see if you can find it.

Actually I lied... A friend of mine pointed me to that site a while ago.

Adobe Premiere can do it automatically, but failing that you could try VirtualDub (search for it on google).

Window sound recorder (or probably any other recorder for that matter) can record straight from the stereo/mono output to your speakers without using any sort of cable or anything. Just set the recording source to "Stereo/Mono output" or something along those lines. You will need a full-duplex sound card though, so you can play & record at once.
