I am using XP Home, and the motherboard from what little documentation I have on it is a L7VMM2 Socket A Mainboard, about 4 months old.

Is the USB hub controller listed in Device manager? if not it may be disabled in the Bios.

How new is your computer? it could be you need USB 2 drivers.Old USB is 1.1 new USB is 2 (USB 2). Have a look and see if your motherboard has USB 2.

Is this your motherboard =

if so it will need USB 2 drivers.

Yes the usb controller is listed in the device manager, and in the device status, it says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)". The actual computer package is about a year old, but in January 03, the original motherboard was replaced due to a problem with something... (they never did tell me what was wrong.)
