It says here

But Wilsonís target is counterattacking, resulting in a court date today in one of the more personal and unusual spam litigation cases to date. Susan B. (her last name ommitted for privacy reasons) argues that Chris Wilsonís site is harassment and wants it pulled off the Internet. It was reported that she had employed over 100 computer experts to hack into peoples encrypted email addresses to increase the data-base of email addresses of her multi-million dollar World-Wide spamming empire.

I should add that to anyone reading this thread and who has viewed that link and doesn't realise it, that it is a joke - as in a cleverly written story by someone with a sense of humour - not the real thing.

I will sit on the fence and watch this with interest.
after all innocent until proven otherwise

I do find it difficult to believe that there would be such a parasitic
and detested individual among us. Unsloicated email is the lowest
form of cowardly selling known to exsist and my personal view of
what should be done to such individuals is unprintable

Well looking at that address it was pretty darn easy to guess it was a hoax ;)

What normal URL has an @ symbol in it.

Chris Wilson

I don't beleive for a moment that i am having any sort of legal battle with Susan, or any other kind of battle for that matter..

Sheesh, she's self confessed forum queen, not spam queen!

About the only thing the "article" has right is that we both live in smoggy CHCH

:D Now back to the program, and i'll go back to being

".Clueless"

To anyone clicking on that link, notice that the item is on a page under a tab named Enterprise.

If you click on the tab to the left named Front Page, let it open, then click again on the previous Enterprise tab, you will find that the fake item is no longer there, as it opens a totally different page altogether.

Also if you drag the top of the open page down a little you will see a pop-under window lurking beneath it named FAKED NEWS.com

Obviously the original site has been hi-jacked. Are there any laws covering that sort of behavour?

What a sick joke against such helpful people. (Jealousy perhaps?)

Well first of all. The news.com site has not been "hi-jacked" it is just another page or a script modifying the original.

As for the actual text in the news. Well someone made that up. It's just like the pornolizers that you can get.

Thanks JM.
So one would only see it through that link on the Press F1 site, not via the original web site.

Yes, I guessed that OK.

Careful Orac, I have said what sort of public tortue multilation and burning I think spammers should get!
If you make statements like your one above, you'll might be the next person named by fake news.

Remember; keep your heads down, don't speak your mind, and whatever you do, don't do anything notable. Its the only safe way to be.
Bollicks to that!

It amazes me how many people fail to see this fake news article for what it is: A joke!!!

Just over a week ago (April 1st) most people were actually amused at such pranks. Maybe certain Press F1'ers are a little too busy being geeks the other 654.

Lighten up!

Seeing as we're giving out bogus URL's, who's been to
CNN's story 21687784.108 (http://www.cnn.com@216.77.84.108) this morning?

I was shocked :O

*Chilling_Silence would just like to note he is simply demostrating how that sorta thing is done - By using the @, just in case some of you guys didnt know and want to be able to amaze your friends! I just quickly made that URL about 30 seconds ago. Go to it if you like, but its just a demostration :-) Plz dont kill me ;-)*

And would you look at this

http://search.microsoft.com/gomsuri.asp?target=%68%74%74%70%3a%2f%2f%77%77%77% 2e%70%72%65%73%73%66%31%2e%63%6f%2e%6e%7a

That would appear to be Microsoft linking to PRessf1.

or this

so if you had a popup block ( like I do ) I never saw the "fake news" window! had to use a mates pc to see it... I just trusted seeing the c-net logo... anyway I've said I fell for it... but doesn't this say something for fake news though??

Ah - Ive just finished downloading Phoenix - Ive been without it for a week - since a format, and you forget how many popups and popunders the web can hold!

The best browser I nominate - But that can be a thread for another day!

*BTW- goto google.co.nz and enter in 'Download Phoenix Nightly', click on 'Im Feeling Lucky' and download the Win32 one for Windows :-)*

Have I missed a good show? :-(

Chilling - how do you stop your little demonstration?

Chilling_Silence
11-04-2003, 01:26 PM
LOL - Im sure I said dont click it.. ;-)

NM thou. If youre an XP user, right-click on the taskbar and choose properties.

Make sure its set to group common tasks or related groups or something (Im on a 2K machine right now so I dont have exact wording..). Then just right-click on the grouped IE Icons and choose close all!

Otherwise, save all your work and log off/restart :-)

Please note that although some AV programs are set off by it, its not a virus, but rather some go off because of the suspicious activity caused by it...

I actually thought it was quite funny when it got sent to me :D

Cheers

Chilling_Silence

BTW - Feel free to pass along feetman.com to ALL your friends ;-)

Mmmm.. Very - try feetman.com instead...

Make sure you gather all your friends and family around you before you go there, it makes it all the more fun for them :D

Just be prepared to log off your PC :p

Crikey Chilling! :O

I couldn't help myself either and I clicked on your URL. :D

It is interesting to note that in Opera that page behaves differently. You can simply close it by right-clicking on the tab and selecting "close page", however in Phoenix (freshly downloaded) you get a very different result and you have to use Task Manager to close Phoenix to stop it.

Must be the difference between using a tabbed view and a window view.

I need a lie down after that.

Jen :-)

Not sure what you did with your Phoenix as it works fine for me.

Chilling_Silence
11-04-2003, 02:05 PM
Ah, Yes - Phoenix is good isnt it ;-)

This is one of those moments we can dread - Having to load up IE ;-)

*Just note - IE does get a look in sometimes on My PC - Chatf1 needs it!*
