Well, I am seriously thinking about making that big leap into high speed (well only the 128kbs but it's better that dam 48.0 :() and I am just wondering, who is better? Xtra's JetStream Starter or Ihug Ultra? I download alot of music/software and play alot of Counter Strike and Half Life over the net (main reason I'm getting it). Any thoughts?

Ultra is faster, 6- 10 times faster than a dialup compared to 3 times faster with Jetstream Starter for downloads.
As mentioned Ultra uploads via modem so this might be an issue.

Do not forgot about the other ISPs that offer ADSL etc...

Have a look here at all the ISP that are support ADSL etc...
http://www.netguide.co.nz/isp_directory/index.php?directory=highspeed

Also they are a few threads on ADSL/high speed as well.

James,

Jetstream is a service supplied by Telecom and this page shows some of the Providers (http://www.telecom.co.nz/content/0,3900,202520-201813,00.html) for this service. You don't have to limit yourself to xtra if you are merely wanting an ADSL connection.

I think you will find that xtra sometimes put a download cap on people who are file sharing. Also they don't allow you to run a server from your home, if you ever decided to dabble in that area. :)

I think you will find that Telstra Clear cable is primarily limited to Christchurch and Wellington, but they use ADSL in other areas.

Another supplier to look at in Auckland would be Walker Wireless (http://www.walkerwireless.co.nz/static/coverage.asp) where they say that they have very competitive rates ;) The link shows their current coverage, so you might be lucky. :)
