I want a simple program to edit various types of video files. Is there any good freeware/shareware video editing software out there?

MovieXOne.

Do a google search for it. It's FREE too, and seems quite powerful, although I haven't used it properly yet.

I have tried some video editing, using a fairly new sony video camera. This years or late last years. When i take it off the camera, onto the computer, so i can see it bigger, it goes all squary. The pixel things or whatever you call them are huge. Why is this? How can i get good quality?

Have just purchased a magazine - "the ultimate dvd & Digital video" published by pcworld. got it from our local bookshop. Comes with a cd with many video editing software programs - some free. cost 15.00 bucks.
Worth a look.

To stop the "big pixels" get a firewire rather than using USB.
Dick Smith have the card which you'll need to put in a spare slot in your PC (really easy) for $40, and the cable for $20.

Maybe try the freeware video spin (http://www.labnol.org/software/download/video-spin-better-video-editor-windows-movie-maker-free-youtube/2254/), which supposed to be easy or the online application at jumpcut (http://www.jumpcut.com/)...
