Have a D-Link dfm560i+ hcf modem in a p100 with 32mb ram.
Fresh install of win95 and drivers from dlink web site.
The Modem will dial my isp fine but won't connect.
I get the message - The remote computer is not answering, try again later
or -The line is busy try later.
Any ideas apart from a proper external modem??.

Double click on My computer and double click Dialup networking
Right click the ISP icon and left click Properties
Click on Server Types Tab
Remove the tick from: Logon to network, NetBeui and IPX
Click OK
Right click the ISP icon and Create shortcut.

Double click on My Computer and double click Control Panels
Double click Network
Remove all Network Protocols except: Client for MS networks, Dialup adapter and TCP/IP.

Restart the computer.

Open the shortcut on the desktop and make sure your correct username and password are in the boxes.
If you have not connected yet they will not be saved here.

Try a connect and if it still fails do the following.

Double-click on My Computer, then double-click on Dial-Up Networking.
Right-click on the ISP icon and choose Properties.
Click the Configure button.
Change maximum speed to 38400
Click the Connection tab.
Click the Advanced button.
In "Extra settings, enter the string. +MS=V34
Click OK, OK again and OK again
Shut down the computer and turn it back
on to activate the changes.

Just had a look on the box for my HCF modem and the official minimum processor is 133MHz and that would probably still be pushing it.

As a general rule, double all minimum requirements if you actually want it to be usable.
