Pornography has been the biggest mover and maybe the only one, but what about SPAM mail, VIRUS effected Email.
and POP-UPS,

Could we partition the government to pass law that if we can trace the source of SPAM mail or VIRUS effected Email we can put them out of action in one way or another.

SPAM Most be the worst, If my supermarket sent me junk mail, I would see some value in it, or even for example "NZ PC world" sent me junk mail, I would trust NZ PC world that they would be less likely to advertise someone that would take my money and not say "hello" if you get my flow, Unlike the place in USA that would like to dry clean my cloths,

VIRUS effected Email, I used to get virus attachments sent to me each month, One day, second half of last year, I go so chessed off after seeing MailWasher saw one in my mail box, without downloading it I went to www.mail2web.com and forward the virus attachment onto AVG, I noticed a few days latter www.mail2web.com had reduced the size you could forward attachments from 100K down to about 10K, ever since that date I have never had any more virus attachments sent to me.

POP-UPS, is the old man out and will never be as bad as the other two, just a pain in the neck most time when you tiring to read something and a "pop up" pops up, I have learnt never close it down from the 'x' top right corner of window, I always right click down the bottom on the thing that appears between the "Start" and the time clock.
Anyway I remove links off my web site that go to other web sites as soon I learn that have "pop up's", about the only way we can stop that problem.

I think (male thinking here) if it good enough for Pornography, why not continue on.

Unfortunately, freedom has a price. Soon as you naively ask the government to help you, more legislation is introduced. Maybe then to recover the cost of policing the law, you will then require a licence to have a website and access internet. Maybe they could then expand the law so it covers any site that shows dissention against the government. Maybe expand it more so goverment bodies can scan info coming in and prosecute those that are downloading copyrighted programs and files. Maybe even files that could be used in an illegal manner. Soory, but I believe the greatest advantage with the internet is it's freedom. I have noticed that when there is something that causes a problem, then someone out there in the "ether" produces a program to combat it. Spam etc.. is a small price to pay for access to information both good & bad.

Hi E.ric

I donít deny that Spam and other rubbish on the Internet is annoying. But please keep the nanny Government right out of the Internet . If they get involved the next thing will be to place a tax on you when you go on line (user pays). You will end up with more rules and regulations that anybody needs and we will look back to the good old days before the Internet was completely wrecked by PC Government agencies. How would you like a WOF or Registration for you computer? No thanks!

Take responsibility for filtering your own content and encourage others to do the same. It is only when Spam etc. becomes in effective that it will stop. I must admit to deriving some pleasure from killing off unwanted intruders.

You only have to read these pages to see that there is plenty of freeware to do it

Cheers oldfart ]:)

The good things about the net, is that you can find just about anything on it, and it is really easy to contact people.
The bad things about the net, is that you can find just about anything on it, and it is really easy to contact people.

I'd rather put up with the bad, to keep the good.

Here is an example of what mentality you would be up against. Saturday Herald.. LTSA is looking at putting a 10km/hr speed limit on in-line skaters and sakteboarders... DOH It seems that common sense and intelligence doesn't come into it when they want to make laws.

Let's clean up the world, instead. Shoot all lawyers, accountants, MBAs, politicians, advertising agents, "intelligence" agents, public relations experts, ... ]:)

How would you effectively monitor that?? It's not like Skateboards come with regulation Speedometers... Come to think about it - is it possible to actually reach and sustain 10Km/hr or faster with a skateboard or rollerskates???

I think if the apathetic were to 'disappear', we'd lose far more than half the population... that's why there is a post here suggesting that the Government be "partitioned".... what I think you meant E.ric was "petition"... there is a difference... changes the whole meaning of the post really... (imagination runs riot)...

Dyan,

Maybe E.ric DID mean that the government should be "partitioned" what wonderful use they could have recycled as petfood!

Sorry meant 90%,thought it but my fingers thought otherwise.
I am sure Helen would like the net to have a 90% Kiwi content, with lots of stats telling us how well the health system and Auck roads are running.
