hey,
I have a 6L printer. I have used the host driver and its been good.
The web only have PCL and postscript downloads now.....

PCL has been very slow. And its recommended due to printer errors.
Postscript??

Cheers

You don't mention which OS - if 95/98. Most drivers are still available from HP's ftp site (ftp://hp.com/pub/printers/software) (even if they don't advertise the fact). The problem is you need to know the name of the driver e.g the 5L host driver is lj825en. This may work for the 6L. The site takes a long time to open as it is huge.

I have the host driver and its fine. I run one system with 2in2k (default win2k driver) and win98 gold (the win95 original diskette host driver).

My Q is ... since the new drivers are only PCL or postscript.

Is it possible to use these new ones without the speed reduction??

My experience with a 5L, across 95/98/XP is the HOST driver was by FAR the fastest on 95/98 - with XP you can only use PCL and it hardly works. (The win2k driver LJ368 is better than the XP one). Slightly complex doc's (pdfs etc) cause printer memory overflows. I had to install dual boot 98, just for printing some docs!
I have heard installing the memory expansion cures a lot of woes. The host driver never seemed to have trouble with big files.
