speed for network cards... don't get them
if it's 10Mbps how fast would that be in kb/s or mb/s

10Mb/s (mega BIT per second) runs at roughly ~500-550KB/s (kilo BYTE per second). give or take a bit due to protocol overhead and network setup.

10 Mb devided by 8 bits per byte which gives 1.25 MBytes/sec less the over head.
100 Mb/s should give 10x the speed so the should be 12.5 MBytes/sec less the overhead. Sounds about right and is close to what I get when transfering via my LAN. I get about 10MB/sec most of the time but it does vary on load/CPU usage/ etc
