View Full Version : OT (oh, so OT) - how do you make puffed rice?

I told someone it would be easy to find out how to make puffed rice or rice bubbles from rice by searching on the internet.

No joy. Failed horribly.

A challenge. I have a game around here smewhere I can give away to someone, if I can identify a clearly deserving recipient.

Okay, tried it, failed miserably. My popcorn machine isn't up to it. I will try oven method.
Cheers Wotz. Email me your delivery address.

Oh, and howstuffworks.com is an awesome site, should have checked there myself, but didn't think to search for rice krispies.

>Make it run up a lot of stairs.

What a terrifying thought - 500 little grains of rice running up and down the stairs!

I can visualise it .... aggh... time to go outside methinks.

I just searched for rice, given the different names used for it.

Popping corn is totally fascinating. I suspect that the corn kernels are a special kind grown specifically for popcorn, and I would say that the same would be true for puffed rice/wheat, etc. Like that article at HSW says, all the right elements need to be there for it to work. If they aren't you won't be successful.

Damn, I wasn't hungry until now.... :p
