Can anyone suggest a good video (.avi, .mpeg etc) editing programme that will do the job satisfactory? using a 2000 machine.

depends on what price and what you want to be able to do with it. otherwise virtualdub (and mods of) will do basic stuff and is free.

I was looking at Adobe Premiere Academic but maybe too expensive.

Needing to cut out frames and stuff out of home movies etc. Also may come in handy for multimedia this coming simester.

does win2k come with windows movie maker? that could be decent enough for what you need.

I think only XP and possibly ME come with that.
