Hi all... just wondering if you would regard this as a stick of dodgy ram or not...

My computer (P4 2.4, Asus P4S533, 512mb DDR333, 98SE) has had another stick of the same ram added. Boots up fine, but will not let me play any games whatsoever... comes up with error messages basically saying "There is not enough hard drive space or other system resources... please shut down, etc" ...

Anyway, taking the ram out and using one at a time means the game can be played with the new ram... So basically, it would seem that there is no problem with either one stick or the other, but both together don't go??

I haven't overclocked my system, and the ram is "Elite" branded Samsung chips... any ideas? Could it be a motherboard fault??

Cheers,

Lo.

Hi Lohsing,

It could actually be a problem with the OS. There can be probs with Win9x when you exceed 256mb of RAM on these systems as W9x isn't designed for the amount of RAM you have on board. Win2K and above don't exhibit these probs as they are designed for more RAM. That said I haven't had any problems with Win ME running 640mb.

as roofus has mentioned you need to tweak the vcache settings. i recommend cacheman (http://www.outertech.com/).
