When I want to quit a music program (Melody Assistant) I get a message saying the program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. The detail says a page fault has occurred in a certain module and gives full details. It doesn't mean much to me.
Then I can't get rid of the error message or shut down the computer in the usual way.
So I have to close the system at the power switch then restart.
Does anyone have any idea how the 'illegal operation' is caused in the first place. (THe program works fine until I want to quit it.)

Are you using the latest version of the Melody/Harmony program?

What other programs do you have running at the same time? Please include details of background apps such as antivirus, firewall, etc if they are being used. To find out what is running press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and note what programs are running in there.

Have you tried re-installing the program to repair the EXE file should anything have happened to it?
