View Full Version : disappearing icons

When I add web sites to my favourites folder, sometimes, the links add a little icon with it that makes it easier to recognise and is more pleasant to the eye. But recently I have noticed that the icons in question disappear after rebooting, and are replaced with the default internet explorer icon. ?:l
How can I make the icons that came with the links stay in the favourite folder? My OS is ME. Thanks in advance for your advice. :D

I think it has something to do with history or temporary internet files or similar being deleted which causes the icon to be lost. If you've set IE to delete any of these on exit or reboot, or have another program clearing these out all the time, that'll explain why you're losing the icons.

A program that is supposed to keep the icons is FavOrg at http://www.nyq.pcmag.com/article2/0,6263,935,00.asp

Thank you guys, you both have been of great help. Yes it has something to do with the fact that i have a scheduled task of cleaning history et-cetera, but Tommy had the perfect solution to the problem, although it is not easy to find FavOrg at the moment due to Ziff Davis migrating web sites and their being the exclusivists of the distribution. But I eventually found it (hence why it took so long for me to reply) and I am very happy with it, and is also free, which helps! :D Thanks again guys. :)

Before you clear temp internet files, go to the folder or search it for *.ico files.

Save any you want to keep to a permanent folder, rename them -anything, and then link your shortcut to the new icon as follows:-

R-click on the favorites icon you wish to change, open Properties / Change Icon, and browse to your new icons folder. Double click the selected icon and close with OK.

Hey Sanco,
It's been so long since I've seen a colourful Icon in favorites that I'd forgotten it does that!
So I went off and looked at the pc site (tommys link), but am having the trouble I presume you had in downloading it..

Sooo what's the trick, where did you get it from, or do, in the end??

thanks Trev
