We have our computers connected to the net going through a swtich, which then goes to an ADSL router. When I try to find my IP address (using the ipconfig.exe util in WinXP) it just shows my address on the LAN, eg 10.0.0.1. How can I find the actual IP address? I need it to play online games etc. thanks.

and u can also do an online check:

http://whatismyip.com/

there are heaps of such websites on the net.

some are accurate, some report your isp proxy as your ip.

do a google search for "determine your IP address".

Just log into your router (10.0.0.138) using your browser and click on "routing"
Your IP address will be the top one (ADSLNZ)

If you are on Jetstart, it will change every few days.

You will be using NAT to get an IP address from the router each time and the router will known that the traffic is bound for your local IP address.

There should be no problems playing games online without knowing.

However if you wish to host a game and let others join in then you need to set up some pinholes in the router so that it knows that all data going in on certain ports get forwarded to your local IP address otherwise it will not know what to do with then and discard it.

It's on the home page about half way down,"find your IP address"
