I would like to split an existing AVI file into Video & audio, to clean up the audio, then recombine them.

I see Windows Movie Maker shows a seperate bar for Sound and Sound can be added to a Movie Maker movie, so i was hoping there was a way to extract the sound.....

Thanks.....John.

moviemaker unlike some editing programmes dosen't have an easy way to do this. But here is a way to do it.
Open moviemaker- click view- options
clear the "auto clip" box
click on the File menu-import. Find your avi file click on it to open it in the moviemaker screen.
Right click on clip ,select "add to storyboard"
right click on the clip on the storyboard and select "timeline"
you will see some icons now at the side of the timeline.
click on the microphone icon -a small pop up appears.
make sure the "line" tag is set to wave output.
then click record.
When it finishes recording give the track a unique name and save to a folder(remember where)
On the bottom of the timeline you will now see your named wave file.
Right click and "delete" this track.
This won't affect your original AVI in any way. and you will have your uniquely named wave file in the folder you saved it to.ready to edit.
It looks a bit complicated written out but in reality it fairly straightforward.
