Putting "win98 shutdown problem" (w/out quotes) in PressF1 search will give you heaps.

Also I would go to http://microsoft.com and look around. This is a common problem.

Not v. helpful maybe but it's a start and no-ne else has responded so gve it a try!

This can be a fault with the power supply but more common these:

At times, the Windows Fast Shutdown will cause this. Click Start, Run and type in MSCONFIG. Now click the Advanced button and then check the "disable fast shutdown" box and save the settings.

Or look here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q238096

Also a bios setting can cause this. I have forgotten what it was now...wake on something.
