Now, what can Knoppix do that windows cant? and do all programs that worked on winxp pro work on Knoppix? also where can i download Knoppix, provided it has to be a reliable version that has not been hacked/cracked. And i should be able to install knoppix on to the hdd like windows, right? Thanks in advance.

Knoppix is a Linux variant.

Therefore none of your Windows applications will run on it.

You will need to source applications written for Linux.

so not even new games will work on it?! so i'm guessing trillian won't work on it then. So what is the advantage of Knoppix? nothing? oh well.

Many games are being ported to run under Linux. Linux is becoming more 'mainstream' now and there is bound to be more games available soon. I use Trillian myself and there are several Linux equivalents to it. I use one called 'Gaim' which does the same thing (connects to multiple instant messenger formats). I recently installed Mandrake Linux 9 which came on 3 CD's and has a heap of software to try out. It only cost me $25 from http://www.xsolutions.co.nz.

Its free.
Its not Microsoft.
You don't need a hard drive to run it.
It comes with free word processing software.

If you are a hardcore games player though then you should stick to Windows.

Some games will run on Linux, I'm not talking about Live CD distros as it's a bit different to get it working.

Games like Q3, RTCW... most games that were developed on Unix/Linux (the ones I mentioned), some are being ported too. Just research what games you have to see if they've been made or ways of making them work on Linux, I guess don't bother with MS games although there's been work on compatible DirectX with Linux.

Is there a reason why this thread has been dug up?

Let it die.... Im sure vk_dre has still got his disc, but would ask if he needed more help.

And just for the record, the Knoppix on the PCW disc had WINE to run Doze apps on it (To a certain degree) and WineX can be made to run also.

I dont see why this thread had to be dug up from october to give us a link to linuxshop?
