XBOX Media Player 2.0
If you can't afford the new Windows XP Media Center edition, why not grab yourself a modded XBOX, and check out the XBOX Media Player 2.0. (http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/newweb/news_latest.php)
The official site has some screen shots and previews. I am sure Gates will be real upset about this one. Somehow $300 for an x-box setup is cheaper than the $2000 XP boxes

Sexy Video Shows Off GeForce FX Power
Although not as obviously pornographic as BMX XXX, nVidia's rendering of a scantily clad pixie left little to the imagination. Filmy, almost sheer leaves cover the wood sprite's private parts -- and seem to be added as an afterthought. The rendering, created by one of the Final Fantasy designers, is both beautiful and slightly unsettling.
According to an nVidia representative, a version of this demo does exist with the leaves removed. "We're bringing porno to graphics", chortled the exec, who wished to remain nameless.
We'll try as hard as we can to uncover the X-rated version of this demo, but for now you'll just have to imagine what she'll look like when the
leaves fall from the trees -- as it were.

SO whats so good about UT2003?

IS it really that good?? I have the demo and it donesnt run to well on XP!!!
dont know whats wrong, could be me 3D card!
I know that my 3D card aint that good but still it should run better than 10 frames a second shouldnt it??

25-11-2002, 11:14 AM
UT2003 has some really cool graphics. however you will need a decent video card.

what video card do you have ?

25-11-2002, 11:22 AM
I have a 16MB NVDIA Vanta™ AGP
i am running XP Home Edition
Compaq - Intel Pentium 4
128MB Ram
20GB Hard-Drive

So why doesnt the game run well????

25-11-2002, 11:22 AM
From what I hear, the reccommend you have at least a 32MB Card minimum for that, and with cards getting cheaper all the time, its a great upgrade. The latest Readeon 9700 can do Real High framerates at 1600x1200 resolutions. Budget cards are able to be picked up from www.pricespy.co.nz for around $150. I'd reccommend a nVidia GeForce 440MX At least, with the GeForce 4 being not too much more, if you've got a fat enough wallet. Dont forget they reccommend a lot of RAM too, and with SD-RAM being very cheap, D-RAM is coming down in price too!

25-11-2002, 11:28 AM
ok Thanx CHilling!!
I mite upgrade some time soon

But im still wondering y it doesnt run!!
shouldnt it run but graphix not very well seen??

I'll look into it more...

25-11-2002, 12:07 PM
you are trying to play one of the latest and greatest games on an under powered machine.

get a decent video card.....gf4MX at the very least. (yours is proberly only a tnt2 vanta)

upgrade ram to at least 256. (is it DDR, SDRAM or RDRAM ??)

i'm very surprised that it even ran.

25-11-2002, 12:13 PM
Oooh... Doom 3 looks like its gonna be a killer!

25-11-2002, 01:43 PM

I havent played that game since doom 1!! :p
lol, whats it like now??
hopefully way beter graphics, it was like running around in a box :_|

P.s. How much would it be to upgrade my 3D card and get a 17" monitor?? just been wondering!!:|

25-11-2002, 02:01 PM
Check out PriceSpy.co.nz for good pricing on PC parts in NZ.

http://www.qmb.co.nz are good for Aucklanders, as is http://www.etccomputers.co.nz.

Not too sure about other regions myself though.

25-11-2002, 02:05 PM
ok Thanx for that, but if i need a change of 3D card will I have to get more Ram???

25-11-2002, 02:15 PM
with winXP you really need 256meg ram or more.

you need to remember the pc is only going to go as fast as the slowest componant will let it.

25-11-2002, 02:18 PM
If you're wanting a New Monitor and 3D card, plus some Ram (SD-RAM about $50 for 256 more if you goto QMB or DDR about 180ish), then it'll cost you anywhere upto $7-800 depending on where you go and what you get!

25-11-2002, 02:58 PM
So what your trying to tell me is that its gonna cost me a hell of a lot to get all of the stuff to make my computer 'my own'??

i mean comon, i dont have money like that to throw around

o well, anwyayz, thanx for the help!!

25-11-2002, 03:24 PM
The monitor would cost you the most, anywhere over $300 Absolute minimum for a 15"... Drop that and it'll cost you anywhere between $200 and $500 for a Graphics card and RAM!

heard good things about samsung moniters on the net, but i haven't had any hands on experiece, could be s@%$.

If your in the market for a new vid card to run UT2003 have a look at the ATI Radeon 8500. Just had a thought you said you have a compaq pc which means in all likelyhood you dont have an AGP slot, thus limiting your options. This would mean you would have to get a PCI card and I think the best card avaliable in the PCI interface is a GeForce 4 MX420.

Have you got SD-RAM? I recently brought 256mb SD-RAM for $56. Its just single sided generic stuff but it does the job.

P.S If you've got more questions it probably worth posting a new thread

25-11-2002, 05:22 PM
Could be worth Cracking the lid on the mc to have a look

26-11-2002, 02:51 PM
dont know about that Pete, its a kind of new computer,(family one), not very good but its alright, im gonna ever buy or make a new one for myself and network them hopefully!!:)

Pete O\'Neil
26-11-2002, 03:01 PM
yeah got that feeling, its the best way to start thou a prebuilt system like the ones compaq makes. You get a functioning PC plus the safety net of after sales support.

Don't know how you can call a P4 not very good? I've still got a function P1 here and that still does its job(although slowly).

Ah well gives u something to dream about

26-11-2002, 03:08 PM
>Ah well gives u something to dream about

that it does Pete:)
nah its a good computer, to much junk on it though, ive got a problem with Disk cleanup and my 56K modem is running very slowly!!!
Time to go to DSL i think:p , yeah right, if i could i would.......:D

so, have you heard anything about these samsung monitors?? I might envest in one of those somday, yes, someday.......:p

26-11-2002, 03:12 PM
Yeah... Yo umight wanna start a new thread rather than posting on the news...
