Running XP Pro dual boot with ME.
When shutting down from ME the computer turns itself off. When shutting down from XP I get the " Safe to turn off " message and have to scramble under the desk to get to the off switch on the back of the computer. Does anyone know how to make XP shutdown the computer completely

Apparently service pack 1 address's this issue Or if you post an email address I can send you the XP shutdown patch, Which doesnt appear to be available at the microsoft site anymore.

Try going into Device Manager, "View/Show Hidden Devices". You should get "NT APM/Legacy Support" showing. Expand this, open the properties for the Interface Node and enable this.

Thanks wuppo. the URL was a big help. Solved the no shut problem by enabling APS and solved my other problem of an increadibly sloooooooooow shutdown. I disabled the event log through MSCONFIG. Now shuts down like greased lightening.
Cheers
