This isnít really a FAQ, but it was suggested to me by Bruce because he couldnít put a link to the pressf1 chartroom (http://www.chatf1.net.nz) on the pressf1 homepage.

The chartroom, which if for all pressf1 members can be accessed by going to http://www.chatf1.net.nz

Cheers

Liam.

Just a quick update on the chatroom and how it is going, so far we have had only 125 hits :O. Thatís an average on 12 hits a day :_|

Come on people you can do better than that!! I spent forty bucks on you lot (for the domain) please donít tell me I wasted my money, or rather tell me I wasted my money in the chat room :D!

Please click into the room soon! (http://www.chatf1.net.nz)

Tried it out as you know nz liam. Two others popped in while I was there.
Once everyone realises it's there I should imagine it will get pretty busy. Also checked out the Wallpaper site too. Some fantastic photos.

Hi everyone, Just a quick update on the chatroom (http://www.chatf1.net.nz).

1. The timestamp problem has been fixed, it now shows true GMT+1200 NZ time.
2. All those annoying flags at the login screen have been removed, which makes it load faster.
3. 'My Room1' and 'My Room2' have been removed so that users donít get lost :D, eventually if we get enough users I will make some extra rooms to accommodate different discussions.
4. It is now compulsory to register, and your password will be sent to youíre email address, (as we have already had a user forget their password).

Thatís all for now, please visit us soon. (http://www.chatf1.net.nz)

Cheers

Liam - this is why forums work better than chat. You can have a near real-time discussion that you can manage much easier. Pop into one thread, post, go to another, pop back 5 minutes later to the 1t thread etc. Chat just demands too much constant attention.

But if people want to chat it's good to have a place where they can do that. Anywhere but here :D

there are sh!tloads of chat places, software, and protocols already in places for those who want to yak.

Is this a FAQ or an ad?

Funny, I must of missed all the people asking asking where the chat room was...

Let's keeps the FAQs just that - people don't want to wade through unnecessary stuff - it's bad enough as it is.

I dont see why there shouldnt be a chat site for like-minded PressF1'ers.

After all the FAQ is just a link to get around it not being an 'official' site.
It isnt doing any harm to anyone, 'live and let live' perhaps? B-)

The FAQ is here because I suggested it as the best place for Liam to put the link, since we don't have a general links section. He is providing a service, after all...

I can't be bothered going there again as it would seem that registration is now compulsory.

Susan B

Why is that a problem BIFF? There aren't many forums where you don't need to register to post.

PressF1 is compulsory as well, but you still come here, and registered even.

I don't really see what the big deal is!

The only problem chatf1 ever had was hardly anyone went there... this has now changed....

It is a logical extention of pressf1, and i'm enjoying bouncing between the 2, one for chat and real time developement of ideas, including the realtime testing and devolopment of chatf1 itself....the other for the more casual "forum" Q+A format.

Hoorah to Liam for making it happen

Those that don't want to know.... won't be seeing you then will we?

Liam has put Bruce to shame with the emoticons that's for sure. ;-)

It's worth going in just to see that one, eh sal? :D

now now kiddys,

CF1 still has a wee way to go before it is as slick as PF1... but you got to love the "rolls eyes" emoticon!

Good to see Liam motivated and upgrading it constantly (even though we all get thrown off each time he loads a new config file)

The deal is I can't be stuffed doing it. Chat is a novelty but it's not that exciting really. I don't have to register to use IRC.

You hit the nail on the head with that one; the chat room is there if you want to use it (like our 61 Registered users, of which we had 11 in there for most of this evening (*looks at the clock, actually last evening)).

And if you donít want to use it then donít register & login simple, no-one is forcing you to use it after all. :D

Sorry to hear you feel that way BIFF because a good handful of us had a ball in there last night. Liam's chat room rocks! :D

I'm quite pleased that registration is compulsory as it means no one can steal my identity and pretend to be me - not that I can think of any reason why anyone would want to be me. :O

No one will knock you for not wanting to join in if you don't knock those who do like it. :-)

Hi everyone,

Just been doing some maintenance on old ChatF1, and have flushed everyone who hasn't logged in during 2003 (i.e. all inactive profiles).

So if I have flushed you profile simply re-register and login.

The site is http://www.chatf1.net.nz as always.

Hi,

Well as you may have noticed ChatF1 is offline, due to the fact that the domain renewal has come up and lapsed.

The domain has now been renewed (at the expense of my poor Visa Card :(), and chatf1.net.nz should be back up again by mid-day tomorrow.

In the mean time you can directly access the server by going to http://chat.farr.net.nz

Hey Everyone,

Its that time of year again; yep were cleaning out the MySQL database, so if you haven't logged into ChatF1 at all this year (2004) then you User profile has been removed from the database and you'll need to re-register.

Remember the link is http://www.chatf1.net.nz
