Now that we've all seen everybody's desktop, how about a little survey about each of us. Just for gender (its not obvious for everyone), age (approximate :p), and location (North, South, or Elsewhere in the world).

Okay, so it goes like this - just three characters are needed.

M or F (Male or Female)

0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (First digit of your age. eg 39yo = 3; 87yo = 8.)

N, S, or E (North Island, South Island, or Elsewhere in the world).

Make sense? Okay, away we go then :D

Dunedin isint all that bad Grahame, I returened after 25yrs away, 12 minutes from the city centre to the extreme outskirts of the city, try that in Wgtn or Akld... :-)

I thought that was the whole point of it Heather.

I can't figure out whether that would be a good thing or a bad thing.

Good: someone to help with problems, someone to talk to about PCs, someone to play games with (PC and otherwise).

Bad: competition over the best PC in the house, competition over who gets their PC/software upgraded first, more $$$ outgoing on PC bits and bobs, someone NOT to help with problems (can't have him fixing it when I can't :O) competition over who knows most about PCs.

Hmmm, I think I've got the best of both worlds: a non-geek hubby = best PC all to myself at home (apart from fighting off the sprogs) and lots of PC mates to talk to and help me out here. ;-) :D

I am 12 minutes WALK to the centre. 5 minutes drive gets me to the country.

I don't live in AK WGTN TGA HM.....

We have NO traffic lights where I live.

10 minutes walk will get me to hovels where I would not expect a Dog to live. 10 minutes walk in the other direction will get me to a house that would cost you $1.25 million ( if it was in Auckland )

Hint... I am also 15 minutes walk from State Highway 1

Anyone want to guess?

Sounds a lot like Tauranga. They removed the traffic lights to replace them with roundabouts. Doesn't sound too bad an idea, until you remember that Tauranga is the biggest retirement village in the country, and that old people don't know how to drive around them (I have seen sooo many near misses with old people turning right on a roundabout :() - too many holdups by the old people sitting and waiting for the whole road to be clear... grrr!

In Blenheim there is a railway line through one of the roundabouts.

In general the roundabouts are in poorly designed areas. A roundabout is fine when you've got four equally busy roads going into it. Because everyone will get a turn. But the ones in Blenheim aren't like that. There is one road which you could sit forever waiting in.

U could always get one of those F&P dishwasher with 2 separate draws top & bottom ... so use the bottom as storage and place dirty dish on top and when the top is full, wash it and use start to use the bottom draw and the top wilbecome storage and vice versa ... don't need to unload them at all :D

Only problem will be conning people to actually put their blimming dirty dishes in the dishwasher.......... darned lazy family.

Years ago, before those dishdrawer dishwashers came out, I once read in an architectural magazine about a batchelor that had two dishwashers in his kitchen. As he dirtied his dishes he put them in one dishwasher until it was full, wash them, then when those clean dishes were dirtied he would transfer them into the other dishwasher. He never used his cupboards for dishes - the dishwashers were his cupboards.

It wasn't you was it, mashimaro? :D

When we get our kitchen done up in a few years time that's what I'm going to do. ;-)

Now I couldn't agreed more on that one ... I once tried to turn my PC off and went to bed and it was so silent that I couldn't sleep at all ... and seems something is missing and not right ... so I got up and turn my PC on again ... :D

On a more serious note, this would be interesting to see the results of this. But in all honesty, it probably means more marketing. They see that 75% of ppl are from auckland or even the north island, and they realise that in the north island that people are using linux more than people in the south island, watch out for linux ads.... Well, If their marketers are clever enough that is!

Man, and to think I quit my course that taught me this stuff coz it was too hard.... maybe I was wrong... :P

Nah... HP inkjet. The new one had a specification of cheaper cartridges.

We've had continuous breakdowns of things in the last couple of weeks. It all started with the toaster and has progressed from there.

Last night my daughter left the lights on in her car. We tried to jump start it, gave up and took her to the train to get to work. The train broke down...

ooh.. don't get me started on the zoo. thats my favourite place in auckland anywhere EVER!

if you have a few spare dollars, buy a "friends of the zoo" pass. it helps them financially, and you can rock in at any time of the day for however long you like. its nice to go there the morning after and sip a flat white while watching the emu's being fed :D

and you get invited to special VIP events..
