I have just changed over to a ATX case and have a question regarding the fan. Does anyone know if the case fan runs at a constant speed or does it vary?

Something is vibrating and causing the machine to crash big time and I'm not sure if it's the case fan or not.

If your motherboard has full temperature control, it could vary the speed, but its rare.

Normally case fans are connected full on. If they are fed by the power supply direct and not off the motherboard, they are likely to be full time on, full speed.

check the cpu fan and how the motheboard tray is mounted. sometimes the vibration of the cpu fan will cause the mobo tray to vibrate causeing a fair bit of noise. also check the standoffs are not loose.

vibration shouldn't make it crash. unless you also have a loose lead or poorly fitted heatsink.

If you have various fans inside and wanna know which one is the culprit ... slowly insert a twist & tide to stop the fan individually and you will know :D

Carefull when trying to the the PSU fan not to stick it too deep or u might get a shock :P anyway .. the twist and tide only needs to touch the fan blade to stop it .

Nothing in a computer box should vibrate. A fan doesn't vibrate unless a blade is broken.

Even so, mechanical vibration should not crash the software. You might have an underpowered(overloaded) or faulty power supply.
