I run Outlook Express 5.002 over Win 98. I have IE 5.5.

I find that when Outlook Express has been started the time to open an e-mail for viewing is 30 seconds or greater. Opening the second or subsequent e-mails takes 2 seconds or less. So there seems to be a "first-time" issue.
I have observed that if IE has been open prior to opening Outlook Express the first e-mail opens fast (ie 2 seconds or less).

This leads me to think the issue relates to some shared routine...

any ideas?

TIA

IE is heavily integrated with Windows, so this is where most of the shared routines will lie

in OE under tools>options is the "send and recieve messages at startup" box checked? if it is, then i think it doesn't display a message until it's checked the server for new messages, so that would mean a delay of about 15-30 second while the server is checked and new messages downloaded. try unchecking the box and seeing if the delay still exists.

I have no idea why the delay wouldn't be there when you start ie first though...
