View Full Version : Hotmail or lack of

05-10-2002, 09:20 AM
Recently I updated with the IE6 SP1. The downlaod and instal went fine but now I find I can't access my Hotmail account from my computer. I get the login page but when I login I get a page of text. Has anyone had this problem and if so what causes it.

Any ideas??

Tools --> Internet Options -->Advanced --> Restore Defaults

See if that works, if it doesn't
Check your security settings, and your proxy settings. All which can be found under internet options. Basically if you have proxy settings, disable them, (it could be your ISP stopping you from getting to hotmail)

Especially check these.

On the Security tab press "Default Level" then press "Apply"
On the Privacy tab press "Default" then press "Apply"

In Internet Explorer 6 Click on Tools | Internet Options | Privacy

Under the privacy tabs Web Sites click Edit
In the Address of Web Site box add the following sites and click ALLOW for each

When you have added these click OK and OK again then restart your IE6 browser and try again.

Cheers, Babe.

It could be an internal server problem at the hotmail end, so you could try waiting a couple of days and then trying again.

Thanks but again doesn't work. Mike I thought of that but unfortunately it's been going on for about 2 weeks and I can access my Hotmail account from a different computer. The only thing I've done is downloaded the service pack. Most confusing and a little frustrating. Thanks again for the ideas

Maybe you should uninstall your new install of IE 6 and have a clean up of stray files or legacy files and then run maintenance and then re-install.

Course you need a browser to get a browser. Duh.

That's all I can think of, if it all started after this recent new install. :D

Or even better ditch Hotmail altogether and get another email addy. I did this after I realised I spent more time chucking out the junk than collecting the mail. :)

Thanks Mark, You made me think so I installed Opera off a disc I had an sure enough it works fine. I don't have the problem with my Hotmail account because when I first set it up I didn't register on the address book. I don't seem to get even 5% of the junk my wife gets.

Anyway its obvious its the install of IE6 thats the problem so I'll uninstall it and maybe use Opera for a while.

Thanks again
