anyone know if it's possible to multizone a DVD player (not a drive, but a set-top type thingame)?

Yes it is possible to convert a DVD player to multizone.
How it is done depends on what brand and model.
Next Electronics is one local company that I have seen advertising that they can "chip" a DVD player for multizone.
But do some research on the net first. All you may have to do with your DVD player is enter a service mode and change a setting.

Also be aware that "chipping" your player will void any warrenty.

What make and model of DVD Player is it.

Some of them have the feature hidden in a menu.

I saw a unit in Warehouse Stationery which was already "zone-free". It said so on the packaging, anyway. $299. It was a week ago or so, and I don't know if it was a special.

Usually instructions come on a piece of paper.
I multi-zoned about four DVDs myself for the iMag DVD review, mostly easy. Just weird series of button presses on remote. No solder required. They all do it.

ah, but where would I find this piece of paper? :D

Usually in the box.
Talk to Panasonic or search the web for the model, you should find it.
It's very doable,

Nothing in the box :)

Yeah, maybe we'll contact Panasonic. Searching the web for that model didn't really find anything :(

Thanks honeylaser - I meant there was nothing in the box about how to multizone the player, the manual was included :)

Do you know it isn't already multi-zoned?

Mike

I doubt it is - it was bought new as a zone 4 (possibly a zone 2 as well?) on Wednesday, we were just trying to figure out how to multizone it. I knew that some could be multizoned with some weird key combinations from the remote, but I've found nothing for this model of player. The manual even clearly says it's zone 4 :)

Mike
Try one, rent a zone 1 DVD, you might be pleasantly surprised.
Officially Zone 4 but unofficially.....

What's the likelyhood of that though, Robo? :) Or do you think its worth a try, just-in-case?

Trust me, give it a go before you get too carried away.
They aren't supposed to be able to be multi-zone but to my knowledge all DVD players in NZ are shipped multi-zoned or with instructions on how to because the selection that make it here suck.
I haven't got many zone 1's but a few, and it is hard not to get them sometimes. Just give it a go, laddie.

PS I see you've moved from Geonosis, were the neighbours bothering you?

I will then - might save some time and hassles :) ... gramps :p

It got a bit crowded with all the Battle Droids they're building there. Thought about moving to Kamino, but it sounds too much like a Maori placename, and people might get lost trying to find me :) It'd be fun to be a storm trooper though, so I might just move there later if I get bored playing with Larry's money.
