NOLF 2 Demo as soon as next week
Sierra has announced that a release of the demo for No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way will be out next week. Here's what they said:
The UNITY Operatives have uncovered several internal confidential memorandums and phone taps revealing that Sierra and Fox Interactive are planning to release the highly anticipated No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way Demo sometime in the next week!

All UNITY Operatives in training have had the chance to face off with the H.A.R.M. Ninjas while overcoming a treacherous tornado on the recent mission to Ohio. All UNITY Operatives in training will have to get ready for the three new levels and be prepared to face even more dangerous H.A.R.M. foes. UNITY Headquarters are expected to receive additional details and will transmit to all UNITY operatives in training. Be on the lookout for more details on how to get your hands on these confidential levels!

Don't forget to look for NOLF2 to show up on store shelves early October 2002!
If this is anything like the first one, it should be a cracker.

Grand Prix 4 Trouble
A story (http://www.officialxboxmagazine.co.uk/default.asp?c=n&s=328) has been posted in the official Xbox magazine on word that Infogrames has shutdown the development team for the Grand Prix 4 Xbox version and that all is not well at MicroProse. Here's part of the story:
Official UK Xbox Magazine has now learned that the whole team working on the highly anticipated Xbox version has been made redundant and development on the game was stopped at the end of July while Infogrames and MicroProse entered into talks about the future of the company. Support from Infogrames has been withdrawn as the company looks to offload assets bought during the French company's spending spree over the last year. Apparently creator Geoff Crammond still wants to see the Xbox version released, but without the backing of a publisher, it's looking highly unlikely
I hope this doesn't extend to future PC and such releases of GP games, the benchmark in racing sims.

533FSB Pentium 4 Chipset Shootout
TweakTown have thrown up a 533Mhz P4 shoot-out (http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=article&dId=357) between the three heavyweights Intel, SIS and VIA. Here's a clip from the shoot-out:
Intelís introduction of the 533FSB Intel Pentium 4 processor was once again received with a mixed reception, some welcomed the new powerhouse of 4.2GB/s bandwidth while some criticized that we had just gotten used to 400MHz FSB and getting chipsets, memory and boards supporting it in full swing and why Intel was changing so quick. Another sour note was that on release, the only official 533FSB chipset was the i850E, RDRAM chipset that supports new PC1066 RDRAM, but no PC1066 RDRAM even on the market, or even a PC1066 standard developed.

Now that we have seen chipsets that make sense from Intel, we have seen VIA and SiS come out with their own chipsets for this new front side bus. Today we are going to throw them into the shark tank and see which emerges the strongest. Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, we give you, Intel i845G -vs- Intel i845E and G -vs- VIA P4X400 -vs- SiS 645DX -vs- SiS 648. Who will be the victor? Let's go through it all and see.
Have a read and see who comes out on top of the flaming heap.

Fujitsu to recall 300 000 harddisks
Japanese magazine Nikkei.Net Interactive (http://www.nni.nikkei.co.jp/AC/TNKS/Nni20020912D12JFF01.htm) (login required) has reported today that Fujitsu is going to recall about 300 000 internal harddisk drives which were manufactured during September 2000 and September 2001. The recall is related to a defect in semiconductors used in the drives and Fujitsu has posted a notice on its Web site alerting owners of PC models containing the drives that they may not work properly in humid climates. The disk drives affected are found in Fujitsu's own computers, as well as those of NEC Corp. and IBM. ATI acknowledges Radeon 9700 AGP 8x problem
Found this write-up over at TweakTown (http://www.tweaktown.com/) and Rage3D (http://www.rage3D.com/) about a problem Radeon 9700 cards are having with 8x AGP. Here's what TweakTown said and how to fix the problem:
One of our readers sent me a link to the Rage3D forums where they say that ATI are fully aware of the Radeon 9700ís AGP 8x problem and has a solution for those of you experiencing problems with their new graphics cards after what we reported on the problem yesterday a couple of posts below.

According to ATI, they are now receiving and testing these 8X AGP boards. They are ALSO finding the 9700 does not work at all or works intermittently at best on these boards. Engineering indicated most of the boards already shipped have this problem.

Solution: A new BIOS and some board revisions are now available that fix this problem. Call ATI Customer Service for help with the issue. At present, they will ship a replacement board that WILL work in SiS and VIA 8X, but they are also considering a BIOS flash solution for problem boards.

Customer Service and Engineering deserve a 10-1/2 for their wonderful handling of this issue. They are very concerned that it be corrected quickly. They also shared that most of their 8X validation testing was done with Intel's unreleased 8X chipset and that they are just now receiving shipping versions of the SiS and VIA 8X chipsets.
