View Full Version : Uninstall Norton Anti-virus

A friends computer recently was infected witht the dreaded Klez virus, have run the fix programme from Symantec's site and run a scan from their site also and it now appears to be clean. But now the Norton anti-virus programme can't be opened (unsure as to whether it was damaged before or after the virus hit) and need to un-install before I can re-install it again. It does not show up in the add/remove programmes and wondered how else it can be uninstalled.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you visit the Symantec site they have some good instructions on removal of their programs.
I'm sure you'll find what you need there

In the past when I have done this I have used 2 methods, The easiest is to use the removal tool supplied by Symantec. Go here (http://service2.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606) to d/load tool. The other way is to go here (http://service4.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001061911223206?OpenDocument&src=hot&prod=Norton%20AntiVirus&ver=2001%20for%20Windows%2095/98/Me/NT/2000&stg=2&base=http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/nav/&next=nav2001_search_solve_install.html&sone=nav2001_tasks.html&tpre=) and do it manually. Lots of work but the upside is (well it worked for me anyway) that you get a fresh installation with new subsription renewal date.
