New Maxtor DiamondMax drives unveiled
Maxtor has updated its DiamondMax family of hard drives to include four new drives, the high-capacity DiamondMax 16 and DiamondMax Plus 9 for top-of-the-line desktop PCs, the DiamondMax Plus 8 for midrange PCs and the Fireball 3 for low-priced computers. The DiamondMax Plus 9 is Maxtor's highest-performance desktop PC drive to date. The drive pairs storage capacities of 60GB, 80GB, 120GB and 160GB with a rotation speed of 7,200RPM. Windows XP SP1 from Microsoft try number two
Microsoft's Premier Download site has again posted Service Pack after pulling it a couple days ago. The link is getting hammered, so be patient.

mp3-2-wav converter version 1.12b released
A new version (1.12b) of the program that converts MP3's to WAV for CD burning, mp3-2-wav is out. As well as converting, the program can normalize the resulting files, avoiding common ups and downs in the volume. The program has a small and compact interface and is easy to use. Windows XP Media Centre Edition preview
Hardware Connect has posted up a preview of Microsoft's Windows XP Media Centre Edition, the new version of the OS that turns your PC into a home entertainment centre. Here's some spice from the preview:
Beginning in the 2002 holiday season, Microsoft and PC manufacturer partners will introduce Media Centre PCs powered by Microsoft Windows XP Media Centre Edition. These exciting new PCs will bring together the best of computing and entertainment for the home user.
Media Center PCs will be complete PCs enhanced for home entertainment, and will come equipped with all the necessary hardware to deliver both powerful computing and an enjoyable home entertainment experience. Media Center PCs will include mid- to high-end processors, more than enough memory for your computing and entertainment needs, high capacity hard disks, and CD-ROM/DVD drives, and will have advanced graphics and audio capabilities as well as networking connectivity.

DVD Region-Free version out 1.05
Version 1.05 of DVD Region-Free has been released. DVD Region-Free allows you to watch all region DVDs on any DVD drive (even RPC2 drives) even if it has been locked. This version has the following changes:
1. Distorted video problem when a title doesn't have menu fixed.
2. PowerDVD XP freeze problem after playback starts a few seconds fixed.
3. Asynchronous IO mode supported.
4. Notify user to uninstall other region-free software such as "DVD Region Killer".
5. Several small bugs fixed.

Windows Media Player 9 Plug-Ins
Microsoft has released some plug-ins to go with the first beta release of Windows Media Player 9. This is supposedly the first time plug-ins have been available for Media Player and so far there is a total of 10 to choose from. Here's a sample of three of them:

AMD 2700+ CPU with 333MHz FSB pictures

MyIE2 version 0.46.1198 released
Version 0.46.1198 of MyIE2 has been released for download with the following changes:
Fixed a bug when loading a huge favorite directory
The same favorite order as IE.
Fixed some bugs
MyIE2 is a browser based on IE core(IE5.x or IE 6.0 required), it can open multiple web pages in one window. But it only occupies a little system resource when its has a greatly integrated interface. It also support Plug-Ins & IE Extensions.

Halo 2 Movie
Bungie have released a movie of their work in progress Halo 2 for the Xbox. The movie requires Media Player 9 to be installed and comes in at 30MB. The movie shows off gameplay with no prerendered scenes. It looks pretty sweet, so grab it from the link below.
