I have two bitmaps. One with a black/grey background, one an image with a white background.

How does one go about superimposing the second on top of the first so that the white background becomes transparent ??

I know it's easier to do in something like PSP, but it's supposed to be able to be performed in Word. Does anyone know how??

If its in the right format you will need to import it into a transparency capable graphics app. (Photoshop etc) as I do not believe Word can render the image to transparent background.

That's what I would have thought, however, my partner is doing some computer paper, and one of the tasks in her latest project is to merge the two files.

The files have been provided and are definitely bitmaps with no transparency info. It's got me beat, I keep saying it can't be done, but she says "then why would they ask it".
