Epox 8K5A2+ motherboard review at Legion Hardware
Legion Hardware has taken a look at the new 8K5A2+ (http://www.legionhardware.com/html/doc.php?id=205) motherboard from Epox. This board is a reworked 8K3A+ with more features. Here's a clip from the review:
EPoX has recently unleashed a new motherboard based on the KT333 chipset that offers the features the 8K3A has been lacking. This new board goes by the name of 8K5A2+ and the overall board design looks very similar to the 8K3A, so I would suggest the performance of this new board will be first class.

MP3Gain version 0.9.5 Beta released
MP3Gain version 0.9.5 beta has been released for download with the only change being a fix for a bug that was found in version 0.9.4. MP3Gain analyses and adjusts mp3 files so that they have the same volume. It does not just do peak normalization, as many normalizers do. Instead, it does some statistical analysis to determine how loud the file actually sounds to the human ear. Also, the changes it makes are completely lossless. There is no quality lost in the change because the program adjusts the mp3 file directly, without decoding and re-encoding. Download MP3Gain from here (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail.php3?fid=1015687834) and check out the homepage here (http://www.geocities.com/mp3gain/).

AMD to change its performance rating one more time
Only twelve months after changing their performance ratings on the Athlon processor AMD has once again changed the rating for the introduction of the 2400+ and 2600+ and all chips following. Here's a slice of an article over at X-Bit Labs:
With the introduction of the latest AMD Athlon XP 2400+ and 2600+ it became clear that performance rating AMD used for its processors does not longer represent the true speed some CPUs can or cannot provide in certain benchmarks or applications when compared to appropriate Pentium 4 models. Firstly because K7 architecture is not as efficient at frequencies about 2GHz as it used to be at 550 - 1500 MHz, secondly due to software optimisations for Pentium 4 processors and SSE2, thirdly because the rival`s microprocessors eventually got 533MHz system bus and 512KB of L2 cache, receiving additional performance boost without increasing the core-clock. In future, the situation will be even worse for AMD and its performance ratings: Intel implements HyperThreading technology in the fourth quarter, giving their CPUs another architectural advantage and increases the size of L2 cache on their Pentium 4 “Prescott” processors to 1MB by the third quarter next year. With both architectural supplements, chips from Intel get another speed increase.
The full article on the changes and how they got them can be read over at X-Bit (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/story.html?id=1030137845).
