its called metapad (http://www.liquidninja.com/metapad/), its small, fast and free, and is like a new 'v2 notepad' (ive replaced the notepad exe with this program, thats how good it is to me), the full version has no size limit on txt file size, so any size file can be opened in it (well, i havent had any problems yet with files i used to have problems with), and they also have a LE version, which i dont have, so cant comment on.

Thanks Sal, looks quite good. Another alternative to Notepad is Textpad which Im using an eval version of... http://www.textpad.com/

What I found good about textpad is its macros. You can record macros much like in Excel/Word except it has a repeat function which you can run through the text.

Meh the whole point of Notepad is that it is so small and plain. It's the best.

Plus the later versions (2000/XP and ?????) do allow CTRL+S and the like.

yes, but i am regularly editing misc files that it cant open cos they are too big, so these are great alternatives

If you're familiar with NoteTab Lite, and reckon metapad is still better, I'll be forced to try it out.

Wow Sal you're efficient! *groan* That's another of my weaknesses - always slow to get down to stuff. Looking forward to seeing it.

Also, I suggest ya look at NoteTab too - but I'll check out yours first. :)
