Ummm ... GeoCities (http://www.geocities.com).

tripod (http://www.tripod.co.uk) (the uk based one, the better one of all the tripods) and geocities (http://www.geocities.com) are the easiest to start off making web pages for newbies, because they have systems in place for doin so, but they are extremely limited/ugly, and full of ads.
lately a lot of people have been using orcon (http://www.orcon.net.nz), because it is nz based, ad/banner-free web space.

mmm, i would say skip the free webspace providers (tripod and geocities) learn a bit about html and ftp (or just grab a copy of the dreamweaver mx floating around at the moment), and make it a good first one (i assume) at say orcon.

Orcon is good. And if you learn HTML then get 1st page 2000 at http://www.evrsoft.com for free.

Half of my site www.bloggsworld.tk is done with 1st page.

also if you go to http://www.dot.tk you can get an adress like mine for free.

use the "Join" link to register into their community. Then you can setup the free hosting.

you can also try Host NZ (http://www.hostnz.co.nz) which is a New Zealand free hosting site.

I've put my first web site on there. I built most of the pages with a very basic web page builder called WebWeaver EZ (http://www.mcwebsoftware.com/) and then to get the frames etc ( where the page opens to the new one but the index stays on the left ) I used Frontpage98 which while it is a pay program is still fairly easy to use and navigate to get the desired effects

Have a look at Basic Computer Stuff (http://dipstick01.hostnz.co.nz)

Arachophilia is a free html editor which you can use like a template prog like geocities or write the code in yourself and it will check (to some extent). Give it a go, HTML is easier than toasting bread (after a while), do not be afraid to try. And you can most probably use your ISP to host your site. Most ISPs give a bit of server space with your account.

Let us know what you do, be nice to see.

Oops - Sorry Sal - you'll need to submit your application to Host NZ again as I can't remember which one was yours.

You may find frontpage express built into your system somewhere.. it looks and feels a liitle bit like word. It's more or less what you see is what you get (WYSIWYG) .. so if you can use word you can make a webpage in front page (express). Then you can check it out on your own machine THEN send it of to orcon/hostNZ/whatever, thus putting in in publicly visable space.

Of course there are pitfalls, but speaking on behalf of the more vocal people here, I am sure that you will get promt help if you get stuck from us here at PressF1

grtz sal.

Hi Sal. So the site's that bad eh? haha Yeah, feel free to mess around with it. Just email me the html and image files when you've knocked something up. Remember though that my aim when making the site (or any other for that matter) was to keep it simple and quick loading. Anyway, have fun! service at hostnz dot co dot nz
