As some of you may be aware, the annual PCWorld readers choice awards are rolling around again.

We need your help deciding on the most important category of all - Game of the year.

For our voting form we need to choose 5 games that PCWorld subscribers can vote for.

I've come up with a short list which I think is a fair representation of the biggest/best PC games so far...they are (in no particular order):

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
Warcraft 3
Flight Sim 2002
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

...but that's just my opinion...keep in mind I'm trying to be fair to all genre's.

So what do you guys think? Is this fair? Am I way off the mark?

Tell me what you think should be there. We can include games released roughly since July/August last year up to the present.

Scott Bartley

Oh and Mr Bruce Buckman....Britney's Dance Beat is NOT going on the form so don't bother trying convince us about that one again.

My kids think ZOO TYCOON is pretty cool. Personally, I like MIDTOWN MADNESS but it may have been out too long

That sounds pretty good but there are a couple that have been left out.

Solitaire and Snake :p

Also I suggest you check out a thread [url=http://forums.overclockers.co.nz/showthread.php?s=&threadid=882&perpage=15&pagenumber=1[/url] there are a couple of people after your head. ;)

Yes I did see that thread....luckily I don't use my real name on their forums huh?

Still...I stand by my comments.

04-07-2002, 01:41 PM
just to confuse things ;-)

how about adding a small twist to it....include addons to games. there are heaps of good mods out there that people play. from the well known counterstrike to the lesser known azure sheep.

does anyone known how many new games have actually come out over the last year?

Wow...that Goldmember guy in the Overclockers forum sure is nice...... ;)

Well I've gotta vote for Ghost Recon, even though it isn't as popular as those on your list.

And I agree that add-ons should get a mention. Anyone still buying HL isn't doing it cause they want to play HL. Counter-strike - warts and all - still dominates the multiplayer world. Not bad for a free add-on.

04-07-2002, 04:46 PM
I still vote for counter strike as a best game of all time. nothing will beat it. :-)

Chao is back
04-07-2002, 04:56 PM
How about:
>FIFA 2002
>Aliens vs Predator 2

04-07-2002, 06:19 PM
Warcraft III?
You've got it?
Not fair.

My kids love Zoo Tycoon too. Should put a kid type one in the list.

04-07-2002, 07:22 PM
My Son told me to mention Max Payne

04-07-2002, 07:35 PM
My vote would go straight for Jedi Knight II.

Although I still want to vote for StarCraft and/or Broodwars :D

04-07-2002, 07:36 PM
oh yeah, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds isn't too shabby either :)

Dungeon Siege definitely, It's one wicked game.
Also worth a mention is Grand Theft Auto 3, I'm not sure if it's out on PC yet but it's the best PS2 Game.

04-07-2002, 10:10 PM
i would vote for Jedi Knight 2, it's an ok game but don't forget Dungeon Seige and Warcraft 3

04-07-2002, 11:58 PM
1. Serious Sam
2. Spiderman

05-07-2002, 12:01 AM
Well my partner says: include Medal of honor, Ghost Recon. and Max Payne - he's the game player not me!

05-07-2002, 10:43 AM
Medal of Honour
Grand Theft Auto 3
Nascar 2002

Medal of Honour demo was really impressive so I got full
GTA3 is great fun
N2002 is simply the best driving sim out there for pc

Ghost Recon was voted Game of The Year.

"In the 8th Annual PC Gamer Awards, leading computer game magazine PC Gamer named Ghost Recon, PC Game of the Year., its highest honor, explaining In a year of fine games, Ghost Recon stands out as one that satisfies visually, sonically, viscerally, and emotionally. According to Executive Editor Daniel Morris, not only is it the Game of the Year, its the Game of the Last Two Years. "

> robo.

In that case I'd have to nominate The Sims House Party Expansion Pack to account for the amount of time The Girl spends on it. :D

05-07-2002, 12:52 PM
Yeah, Ghost Recon rocks. Needs more patience and tactics than the CS crowd can muster, so it will never beat out that kind of game in numbers of players, but it a very very cool game.

05-07-2002, 01:07 PM
Medal of Honour
Dungeon Siege
Max Payne
Ghost Recon

Funny how everyone seems to choose games where MDK is so prevelant?
Oh well, I guess I'm as bad as everyone else, but they are so fun!

05-07-2002, 01:19 PM
It think you're right on with that list. Jedi Knight and Dungeon Seige are certainly my 2 favorites for the year, I heard great things about Medal of Honour, don't like Flight Sim at all but I know stacks of people love it, and I guess we'll see after a few weeks of release whether Warcraft 3 lives up to all the hype!

05-07-2002, 08:14 PM
Id add Ghost Recon to my list of candidates now that ive tried the demo, like to get my hands on the full game.

One thing I don't get is the ammount of support for dungeon siege, just seems like a repetitive hack'n'slash to me with no real depth.

06-07-2002, 12:48 AM
If ya gonna get Ghost Recon, then buy the Desert Seige add on pack which is worth the extra money. Then try out the M-60 machine gun with full volume and see if the neighbours will call the Armed Defender Squad.

06-07-2002, 01:44 AM
hehe the armed offenders turning up at my place would be really cool.

06-07-2002, 02:01 AM
*pops out of lurking to vote*
Black and White!!! Also the expansion pack, Creature Isle :)

06-07-2002, 09:06 AM
Age of Empires 2, The Age of Kings, Conquerors Expansion - YES!

07-07-2002, 12:02 AM
Here is a little suggestion, what about Empire Earth or Civilization 3, it's educational and with bloody good game play from both games.

08-07-2002, 01:42 PM
3.Serious Sam

But Number 1 in my book for this year has to be.......

Over 100hrs in and so far to go..............sigh!I'll probably say the same next year it's so BIG! lol

08-07-2002, 02:36 PM
Well, Having only played dungeon Seige, I can only say I'd vote that, but in saying that, while working part time in factory work, doing curcuit board assemblies, EVERY worker there said that Counter Strike was #1. They've coined the saying "Have CS - Will Come!"
So, that tells me a lot.
I dunno thou, never played it myself.

09-07-2002, 01:15 PM
Grand Theft Auto III
Neverwinter Nights
Soldier of Fortune II

^^ add those perhaps?

10-07-2002, 05:26 PM
Well I reckon Spider Solitare (comes with winXP) as the BEST game yet!!! I have played that so much it just aint funny, and I keep coming back for more!! It's like a drug is what it is...

10-07-2002, 08:05 PM
Never Winter Nights
Spider- Man The Movie Game ( yipee)

:D :D :D :D :D

LOL Jimbob, I got addicted to that game, give your self a break and start playing Free Cell, that can get addictive as well.

I play card games while I'm waiting for web sites to load, dam slow dial up.

Any way back on the topic, I'm voting for dungeon Siege again, the only thing that annoys me about the game is how long it takes to load the world, it gets frustrating after a while but it's worth it in the end. I'm currently about 8 hours into the game.

11-07-2002, 05:38 PM
Medal of Honour: Allied Assault
Flight Simulator 2002
Grand Theft Auto III
Age of Empires II/Empire Earth/Civilization III
Worms Armaggedon/Worms World Party

12-07-2002, 10:13 AM
Well, eveyone says CS, and it is extremely popular, but having played it alot and then moved on to Day of Defeat (http://dayofdefeatmod.com/), the WWII Mod for HL, I'd have to say that DoD is the better game. It took a little longer to catch up to CS in sophistication, but it really rocks now. Real team play, not just a bunch of show-offs and cheaters like you get in CS nowadays.

12-07-2002, 04:46 PM

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
and Day of Defeat Mod for Halflife

13-07-2002, 02:52 PM
No going past "Zoo Tycoon" and "Worms Armageddon"

Craig - are you in Auckland? If so, wanna play AOE2?

14-07-2002, 05:07 AM
Warcraft 3 so hard to play in solo mode though excellent overall especially the spells and replay ability to let you analyse what went wrong or right highly stressful game with the cheats impossible to win in my opinion without unlimited gold plus speed .

14-07-2002, 04:17 PM
Grand Theft Auto 3 - all the way

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds and its expansion: Clone Campaigns.

14-07-2002, 04:28 PM
> Warcraft 3 so hard to play in solo mode...

How far are you in the solo mode? Which campaign/level?

15-07-2002, 01:59 PM
You Forgot The Sims and all of the expanstions.

16-07-2002, 01:09 AM
Would have to be GTA3 PC, sure there were a few glitches (I got one the first versions, was playing it before they could sell it in Auckland :') But for overall Gameplay GTA3 links combines everything together in a fun package.

17-07-2002, 02:38 PM
