View Full Version : transferring of xml/ txt files

When emailing an xml file as a txt file it appears to have added paragrapgh marks which then invalidates the xml message when a paragraph mark appears in the xml tag.

Suggestion is this is because it is transferred in ASCII rather than binary- is this likely?

This is quite likely. ASCII mode can (so will) modify a file in transit. The conversion happens *whenever* the packets move between say, Windows and Unix, environments. This can happen a number of times in an Internet email process.

Sending in binary mode will be *much* safer. The file will arrive 'as sent'. The only problem with that used to be that a straight text file sent in binary mode from a Unix site would arrive at a 'DOS' site with no <CR> characters, so we got the staircase appearance of the text. The other one was if an ASCII file arrived at an EBCDIC site. But there were conversion programmes for both these problems.
