View Full Version : Modem - actual speed

14-06-2002, 05:21 PM
I have a SwannSmart V90 56K external modem.
Connection speed - read with the cursor over the connection icon - reads 115200bps, but I am well aware that this is not the actual data transfer speed on line.
Does any one know what setting change (presumably to the modem commands)I can make in order to indicate the actual speed of the connection?

Ken, You're right that 'speed' is the serial port 'max' setting. You could be using (knowingly or otherwise) generic drivers for that modem / OS type. You need to install / configure the right driver support for the modem and OS.

try the following url:

Or you could just sit back and be happy as you are assuming on a download you are getting anywhere near 56.6

I find the generic drivers work perfectly well and there is no need to change a thing.

Hi Ken

In control panel, modem properties> properties, connection, advanced. In extra settings include the line W2 this should show your actual connection speed.
