I was talking on MSN Messenger, then decided to play a game of Quake 2. I put messenger to 'busy' and went into the game and connected to the xtra server. my comp froze. i restarted and tried again. this time it froze and i managed to close the program. i quit messenger and all IE windows, but my computer was still downloading something (the little green comps in the corner were flashing). I ignored it and went onto a gamefaqs.com forum to post, and suddenly a window popped up. 'Exploring:My Computer'

i closed this window but it happened again, and i decided it was safest just to turn my comp off at the wall, which i did. I'm not having any problems at the moment, but i still think i've got some sort of spyware on my comp. Just wondering if u guys could help me find it, get rid of it, and prevent it happening again.

that was a bit long winded wasn't it? :)

you have it sounds like a trogan horse program in your system run norton antivirus thru your PC and ad-aware plus install a firewall like zonealarm to filter out exactly what is going on if you are on cable you will always be probed and if you have any weakness in your ports etc they will be discovered and exploited

Yes it does sound like you have a trojan and someone was gaining acess to your puter. I suggest you install zonealarm from the latest pc worls magazine and only allow your browser (internet explorer) acess to the net till you get things cleaned. You can run a scan from www.symantec.com which is the norton web site or you can also download a specialised trojan scanner to hunt and kill the little bugger. www.agnitum.com has a good one called tauscan available as a trila for 30 days. Please note some anti virus software misses some trojans which is why it is a good idea to check with a trojan scanner on a regular basis. www.anti-trojan.org for more info on the little buggers. Have fun and I suggest you change all your passwords too just in case.

Just went thru my PC with a fine tooth comb and found 2 trojans plus 1 spyware in some of my utilities using a program called PestPatrol which detected things norton missed !!.

Just uninstalled norton utils keeping the Norton anti virus and installed Fix-It a no nonsense program that is slimmer and does a really good job of cleaning up registry problems etc I cant comment on it defragging abilities yet as i havent had a chance to use it overall I am very impressed with its simplicity and power doesnt require as much resorces to run as nortons and seems to be faster and more efficient as well.
