View Full Version : Time calculation in Excel

I have a need to sum the amount of minutes between 2 times.
Eg, start 7.32am - finish 1.33pm. (13:33 in 24 hr time) but I cannot get the answer in minutes. I can format both as time in Hr:mm but only get a result in Hr:mm. Does anyone know how to get the result in minutes only. Excel does not appear to have this format available.
Thanks

=(D4-D5)*24*60
if d4 and d5 are times, format the answer as a plain number. Answer is as a fraction of 24 hours, the above gets it into minutes.

Thanks Robo, I'll try it tomorrow at work.

To Andy P. Just out of sheer nosy curiosity, why would you want to do that? John M

Hello John M,

The reason I want to do this is because I measure production efficiency for a certain machine. I get a printout from that machine that gives me a start & finish time. I have previously been calculating the time manually & entering it into a speadsheet. Now I do not need to. Just another small time saver!
