View Full Version : Printing the directory

I used Rob Clarke's reply to Joanne Doolin's query about printing the directory and it did not work. I may be puting the spaces in the wrong place. First I tried the recommendation with no spaces then with several the answer showed might be spaces.

Then I changed the 'O' to a '0' (Oh to zero). None of it worked and it says it cannot find the parth.

Here is what I have at present
@echo off
dir%1/-p/0:gn>'%temp%\dir.txt'
notepad/p'%temp%dir.txt'

What have I got wrong?

Almost there Alan! Just try adding a few more spaces, it should read:

@echo off
dir %1 /-p /a /o:g > %Temp%\dir.txt
notepad /p '%temp%\dir.txt'
cls

Just copy it and save it as a batch file (.bat) in the send to folder and it should work fine.

Another little tip, if you add cls as the last line with no spaces or returns at the end then the dos window will close once the program has finished.

We really need the special character used on coding sheets so that card punch operators would get it right: we used a lowercase 'b' with a stroke through the vertical to indicate the 'space' character.

Just to make sure: space before '%1', each '\'/'\', '\'>'\', '%T', ''%'.
