View Full Version : DVD movies to CD

I've heard that DVD movies can be backed up to CD using a CD burner.

Has anyone used any of the utilities that can do this? and which one produced the best results.

DUP-DVD is one of the utilties I've seen, but says an ASPI driver is required.
(What does this mean and how does it work.)

I have a DVD drive and CD burner with Windows Me.

All comments welcome.

Thanks

Mike.

It would envolve ripping the DVD to your harddisk, then splitting the file up and burning multiple VCDs (Video Compact Disc). This will be able to play in *most* regular stand alone DVD players.

The other option would be to rip the DVD onto your harddrive and encode it into a DivX ;-). This will only be useful for using on a computer unless they bring out DivX ;-) capable DVD players at some stage.

Encoding the DVD rip will take some computing power.

Interesting question.
Here's another - why would you want to 'backup' a movie DVD?
Sounds more like 'pirate' than 'backup'. Get off the grass!

Try doing a search for 'DVD2SVCD' on google. Download the app... it's quite good for an all in one ripper/encoder, etc.

SVCD format might sometimes NOT be supported in a free-standing DVD player, but newer ones are generally ok.

Don't forget to take copyrights into account!
Good information here
http://www.vcdhelp.com/

Basically, you Rip the DVD to your harddrive, then recode the video(either to VCD or Super VCD),then burn it as a videocd or super videocd.
Hope this helps?
