and in periferals put spp and lo pc saw printer! but... after installing drivers etc it keeps saying 'out of paper' which it aint! If i press print test on printer page it starts [prints about 2o lines of gobbldegook] then stops and says 'printer out of paper'
Why? huh?? why??

You havent mention your operating system but i suggest you go to www.canon.co.nz and download the latest BJC210sp drivers.
As the problems your having are driver related..

Some printer drivers install their own port driver. If your bios for the port was set to EPP or ECP when you installed the printer, the driver may have been set up for such. Try re-installing the printer with your port set to SPP. If that works, try changing the bios 'upwards' to EPP. Also, some devices don't like EPP1.9; try EPP1.7 if you have the choices. You should be able to do better than SPP.
