A friend has a problem, preventing her using the internet.
She can connect to her ISP alright, but when attempting to access any URL, an error message: 'Socket error 10093' is displayed. This also occurs when trying to access Paltalk.

I have done many searches of MS & google about this error & find the definition is: 'Successful WSASTARTUP not yet performed'. But no information on how to fix this problem.

I suspect it has to do with calling DLL files.

Someone has suggested reinstalling windows is necessary.

The OS is Win 95b, 32Mb ram, IE5. IE5.5 has also been tried with the same result.

Any suggestions/solutions for this problem will be welcome.

Many people wont agree with me but re-installing is seldom really neccessary.

If your friend has not yet done so I would suggest upgrading winsock and dialup networking from the versions supplied with Win95B.

You can get both from the MS Windows 95 page, and also a year 2k fix. Read the order in which you need to instal.

Hopefully this may cure the problem.

Thankyou Terry. We sure hope re-installing windows will not be necessary.

I will pass on the info you have given.

Many thanks,
