View Full Version : BIOS password help please
Hi People
My friend has bought a new soundcard to replace his onboard one.
When trying to install it,his BIOS turned out to have a password. The manufacturer told him they never ship with a p/w.
Goodness knows how it got there. Is there any way to read or circumvent it?
thanks for any help !
cheers
Pete
there should be a bios jumper on your friends motherboard which clears your cmos. Read the motherboard manual for help.
Peter, it's not a bad idea to give some tiny hint about the system, such as perhaps is the BIOS from AWARD, AMI, or some other. :-)
Try these first.

I've worked on quite a few computers which had Award's default SW_AWARD password.

You could always take the battery off the main motherboard for about ten minutes or so.
This will clear the password.
But remember to unplug the power cord too ... ATX power supplies are 'never' off. There is a trickle supply to the motherboard, and LAN cards, internal modems, and the 'power switch'.
But there is usually a jumper to do the job --- and Compaq and IBM boxes often have a label on the inside of the cover which tells you where to look.
