This update addresses several security & service reliability issues in Windows Messenger 4.6. To improve connectivity & system performance, even if you do not use Windows Messenger, Microsoft recommends that you install this update
Microsoft has also released a cumulative patch for Internet Explorer that includes the functionality of all previously released patches for IE 5.01, 5.5 and IE 6 and fixes two new vulnerabilities, which are:
- A vulnerability in the zone determination function that could allow a script embedded in a cookie to be run in the Local Computer zone.
- A vulnerability in the handling of object tags that could allow an attacker to invoke an executable already present on the user's machine.

Affected Software:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01, 5.5 & 6.0

Some VIA and AMD user forum boards are reporting that the ABIT KR7A-R may be afflicted by the same memory timing issues that caused some concern in the BH6. These forums (ViaHardware #1 <http://bbs.pcstats.com/viahardware/messageview.cfm?start=1&catid=28&threadid=12063>, ViaHardware #2 <http://bbs.pcstats.com/viahardware/messageview.cfm?start=1&catid=28&threadid=11225> and AMDMB forums <http://www.amdmb.com/vb/showthread.php?s=dea03fa55507bd4d6c567f8d4c576efe&threadid=110188>) that the memory timing issues result from the fourth DIMM slot on the board. Here's a condensed version of what was found by one user and how to get around it:
Abit had similar issues with their BH6 motherboard and it was generally concluded that there were interference patterns (multipath signals) which resulted in memory problems. This was more apparent with multiple RAM modules.
This 'fix' was to locate RAM modules in certain DIMM slots which, it was thought, cancelled out these 'reflection errors' - it worked for many BH6 users.
Overclockers.com <http://www.overclockers.com/articles559/> now has done some extended testing on the memory stability of the KR7A-R and in some cases the board failed and once even refused to boot.
I was confronted with a similiar issue yesterday after I had to switch a DDR2100 module from DIMM slot 1 to slot 3 (now populated slots 2+3 with 256MB each).
Before - when slot 1 and 2 were used - I could use the most agressive RAM timings CL2.5 - Trp:2 - Tras: 5 - Trcd:2 - DRAM Command Rate: 1T and all was well.
After the DIMM switch I got LOADS of BSOD's in Windows to a state where it became unusable like from 10 seconds to every ten minutes a crash...
I had to revert back to default settings and was looking for a solution. I came across the forums mentioned above and some users suggested upping the FSB to 136-138Mhz. Finally 138Mhz FSB did the trick for me and except DRAM Command Rate set to 2T now (still does not work) timings are back to initial settings and the board is now stable. This leads to the impression though that we are indeed talking about signal interference.
Interesting about this is that Overclockers found no problems when using DIMM slot 2 and 3 at 133Mhz FSB while my board malfunctioned! I will test a 512MB Corsair memory stick soon and see if it makes a difference compared to two 256MB sticks...
It has been found that Jedi 2 will not allow you to enable 3D Sound in the game options window. It has probably been disabled because the 3d Sound is only really supported by Audigy and Live soundcards. Here's how to enable the advanced sound if you have one of these cards:
Go to your config files for SP or MP mode in the LucasArts\Star Wars JK II Jedi Outcast\GameData\base directory
Open the file with notepad and make the following change:
seta s_UseOpenAL '0'
to
seta s_UseOpenAL '1'

iD has released patch 1.3.1 for Return To Castle Wolfenstein featuring the following fixes/issues:
Teleportation and Reviving Players Bugs Fixed
Bugs introduced in 1.30 related to reviving players and teleportation, or warping, on certain maps have been fixed. These issues were a byproduct of a fix for reviving players on and around script movers (the giant doors in mp_assault for example).
The patch has also created one new problem, the mp_ice map downloaded with the 1.3 patch disappears and the game does not load it anymore. To fix this, open the previous 1.3 patch and extract the mp_pakmaps1.pk3 to the /main folder in RTCW and overwrite the new file. If you can handle this little problem, grab the new patch here.

On a sadder note, Ron Dwight, creator of the versatile Winrar compression program has died at age 58. You can read a tribute over at Rarsoft.

A company by the name Dimastr has released a plugin for Outlook and Outlook Express that gives you the functionality of the Altavista Babelfish translation for your emails.
